TRAC Football Blog: Kewanee Looks to Remain Undefeated Saturday

The Kewanee Boilermakers stunned a very good Mendota Trojans team last Friday 56 to 7. The Trojans had only 1 loss this season going into the match up and had outscored previous opponents by a more than 100 point margin. The Boilermakers were unstoppable with Keyontiss Patterson rolling up nearly 150 yards by halftime and Quarterback Will Bruno setting the all time and single season touchdown pass record on a single play to Niko Powe. The Boilers return to action on Saturday this week with a home game against Rockridge at 1 Pm. That game will be broadcast live on Hog Country 102.5 WJRE on Saturday afternoon.

As for the Mendota Trojans they will try to bounce back at home against Newman Central Catholic. That won’t be an easy task as a very confident Comets team is coming off a blowout victory over a very good Hall Red Devils team last Friday night. The Newman Central Catholic defense held the Red Devils scoreless on their way to a 43 to 0 victory. That same Red Devils squad came up just short against Mendota 43 to 34. This game will also be a Saturday matchup with kick off at 5 Pm.

The Red Devils fell to 2 and 5 overall on the season with the loss. They will need all the recovery they can get as they welcome a highly motivated St Bede Bruins squad to Spring Valley. St Bede is looking to become playoff eligible this week after falling short last week in a blowout loss to the Princeton Tigers, 47 to 20.

The Princeton Tigers enter this week 6 and 1 with only a loss to conference rival Kewanee on their impressive resume. This week, the Tigers welcome Bureau Valley to town. The Storm are riding a 5 game losing streak after losing last Friday night to a very good Erie Prophetstown team, 35 to 12.

The E-P Panthers are on a 5 game winning streak and need just one more win to earn playoff eligibility. They have a tall task in front of them however, as they will play host to the Mon-Rose Titans who have a 6 game winning streak on the line. Mon-Rose rolled to victory last week over the Riverdale Rams, 46 to 6.

The loss to Mon-Rose last week was the 7th straight loss this season for the Riverdale Rams. They will try to end that losing streak and earn their first win of the season this Friday as they host the Morrison Mustangs. Morrison played a tough first half and kept close to the Orion Chargers in the first half. However, the Chargers scored 23 unanswered points in the second half and held the Mustangs scoreless on their way to a 30 to 0.

The 2 and 5 Orion Chargers will hope to keep their momentum going as they travel to play against an 0-7 Sherrard Tigers squad eager for their first win of the season. Sherrard struggled to their 7th straight loss, 56 to 7 last week against the Rockridge Rockets.
