Princeton, Erie Prophetstown and Newman Central Catholic Gearing Up for Weekend Playoff Games

Along with the Kewanee Boilermakers, who play on Saturday at 1 Pm against Chicago Phillips, 5 other local teams, teams from the LTC and TRAC, will be in action this weekend, including two teams Kewanee played against this season.

On Saturday afternoon at 1 Pm the Princeton Tigers will play the 8 and 2 Prairie Central Hawks. The Hawks come in a with a terrific defense and run oriented offense. In their 8 wins this season, Prairie Central held opponents under double digits in scoring 6 times. In their last three wins, including their first round playoff victory over Chicago King, the Hawks have shut their opponents out.

Princeton meanwhile comes in at 9 and 1 with the Tigers only loss coming against an exceptional Kewanee Boilermakers team. Princeton’s high powered offense outscored opponents to far this year, 430 to 158. Princeton is coming in off of a 47 to 14 win over North Boone in the first round of the 3A Playoffs.

The Erie Prophetstown Panthers will be in action on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm against Bishop McNamara. The Fighting Irish stunned the TRAC Co-Champions, the Knoxville Blue Bullets last week to earn their home game this week against Erie Prophetstown. The Fighting Irish enter the game at 6 and 4 with a high powered offense.

As for the E-P Panthers, they are riding an 8 game winning streak into Kankakee. E-P dropped close games in their first two games of the 2020 fall football season before running off 8 straight wins including last week’s first round victory over Clifton Central 56 to 20.

The Comets of Newman Central Catholic are the only team to have beaten the Kewanee Boilermakers this season and that 20 to 17 win was enough to propel the Comets into their playoffs where they stunned longtime rivals, Mercer County in the first round of the 2A Playoffs, 33 to 24. The Comets have a tough task ahead of them in the second round as they face the number 1 seeded Wilmington Wildcats. Wilmington comes into the game undefeated at 10 and 0 and coming off of a blowout win over 16 seeded Julian last week.

Last week the A-Town Tornadoes ended the season of the A & W Titans in a barnburner of a close game, 14 to 8. This week, the topped seeded team in 1A will Iroquois West, the 8 seed in 1A. Last week, Iroquois West ended the season of the United Red Storm 35 to 26 to earn this match up against the top seeded Tornadoes. Game time is 1 Pm on Saturday.

And finally, the St Bede Bruins have battled their way into the second round of the 1A Playoffs. St. Bede defeated Chicago Hope Academy last week 30 to 19. The Bruins only 2 losses of the season came against Kewanee and Princeton, two exceptionally good teams. The Bruins bring that energy into the second round of the 1A Playoffs in a game against Ridgeview, a team that has given up only 6 points in their last three games, including a pair of shutouts that earned Ridgeview a place in the 1A Playoffs. Ridgeview is coming off of an upset win, 34 to 6, win over 4th seeded Rushville-Industry last week.
