Kewanee High traveled to Dixon, IL to take on the Dixon Dukes in a non-conference matchup. Kewanee entered the game with a 1-3 record and looking to play more consistent at both ends of the court.
The first quarter was back and forth defensively with both teams playing tough half court defense. Senior Will Bruno led the Boilermakers with 4 points in the opening frame that ended with the Dukes leading 13-7.
Dixon came out firing in the second quarter from behind the arc. The Dukes connected on six 3 pointers in the quarter with a trio of players connecting on two 3 pointers a piece. Senior Niko Powe tried to keep the Boilers in the game with six second quarter points. Dixon closed out the half with a 39-20 lead.
The third quarter saw Kewanee play their best quarter of the game. Paced by sophomore Brady Clark’s 9 points, the Boilermakers closed the quarter with a 13-12 advantage.
Both teams had a chance to clear their benches in the final quarter. Dixon won the quarter 12-10 and the game by a final of 63-43. The Boilermakers were led in scoring by Niko Powe’s 15 points, followed by Brady Clark with 12 and Will Bruno chipping in 7.
The loss drops Kewanee to 1-4 on the season. The Boilers will open up their home schedule in Brockman Gym Friday night vs Peoria Quest.
