The Western Illinois football team met the eighth-ranked South Dakota State Jackrabbits inside Dana Dykehouse Stadium Saturday and fell by a score of 45-10. WIU welcomes North Dakota to Hanson Field next Saturday, March 13, at 12 p.m.
The Western Illinois women’s basketball team (8-15, 6-8) overcame a 10 point deficit at the half, and sank two free-throws with 1.6 seconds left to defeat No. 4 Kansas City (10-12, 7-9) 60-59 on Sunday afternoon. No. 5 Western Illinois will take on No. 8 Omaha Monday in the semifinals at 11:45 a.m.
Western Illinois volleyball (0-13, 0-12) and North Dakota State (8-4, 6-4) went at it Saturday evening. The home team won 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 24-26). WIU’s ‘bye week’ gives the team a break for the next 12 days. The Leathernecks host North Dakota March 19-20.
Saturday afternoon saw Western Illinois men’s soccer (0-5-1, 0-4-1) resume its Summit League series against the Omaha Mavericks (3-1-0, 2-1-0). The hosts took a 4-1 victory. WIU returns to play on March 18, hosting Oral Roberts in a home opener.
Facing North Dakota (2-2-0, 2-2-0), Western Illinois women’s soccer (0-8-0, 0-8-0) worked hard but ran out of time in a 2-1 setback. The visitors took the Summit League series in a two-game sweep. Western visits the Coyotes of South Dakota on Friday to kick off another league series.
