Macomb Police, McDonough County Sheriff’s Department Arrest Two Galesburg Men on Charges of Aggravated Battery and Robbery After Alleged Home Invasion

Two Galesburg residents were arrested in Good Hope Monday afternoon and charged with a variety of crimes, including aggravated battery. According to the Macomb Police Department, Deandre Deal and Marcel Bates of Galesburg were arrested after a felony traffic stop on Tower Road and US 67 by a McDonough County Sheriff’s Deputy and the Macomb Police Department.

The Macomb/McDonough was contacted by Colchester Police for assistance in the investigation of the apparent delivery of a five-pound package of cannabis. Agents conducted surveillance on the suspects involved.

At about 1:32 p.m. Monday, the Macomb Police Department got a call about a home invasion in progress at 333 N. Clay St. where it was determined possibly armed suspects who were allegedly involved in the Colchester drug transaction were seen. Agents already in the area observed the suspects’ vehicle and alerted police to the direction the vehicle was traveling, possibly heading to Galesburg.

Police found the vehicle at Tower Road and US 67 north of Macomb. Macomb Police and McDonough County Sheriff’s Department followed the vehicle before making a felony stop in Good Hope where the suspects were taken into custody.

Deal was charged with aggravated battery, robbery, a Kentucky warrant for robbery, and a warrant out of Knox County. Bates was charged with aggravated battery and robbery. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

A subject at the scene of the alleged home invasion was treated at McDonough District Hospital for minor injuries.

Police are continuing to search for the allege weapons involved in the incident, and the investigation continues.
