Sterling Murder Suspect Located and Arrested

On Monday, June 07, 2021, at approximately 5:20 PM Central Time, the United States Marshals Service arrested and took into custody Michael W. T. Bennett, 35, of Sterling, Illinois, on a Whiteside County Warrant for First Degree Murder

Michael W. T. Bennett was wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred on Saturday, May 1, 2021. On that date Bennett is alleged to have shot Joshua N. Hamrick, 39, of Sterling, Illinois at Hamricks residence. Hamrick died as a result of those gunshot wounds

With the assistance of the Whiteside County States Attorney Office an arrest warrant for First Degree Murder with a bond of 2 million dollars was obtained for Michael W. Bennett

Sterling Police Detectives immediately worked in conjunction with US Marshal Service after obtaining the arrest warrant for Bennett. Information learned during the investigation, from prior arrests, and travel habits of Bennett led Sterling PD Detectives to believe that Bennett had left the area and traveled to Colorado

Bennett was taken into custody without incident at a hotel near Centennial, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, Colorado, by the US Marshals Service

Bennett was transported to the Arapahoe, Colorado, County Jail and is being held there pending extradition to Illinois

All charges are allegations at this time and Michael Bennett is presumed innocent of all charges until proven guilty.
