Western Illinois News Brief: No Macomb Committee of the Whole Meeting Tonight

Nauvoo police arrested a man for failing to register as a sex offender. 30-year-old Charles Hanley is charged with one count of violating the duty to register. He is being held in the Hancock County Jail after he was arrested in Lee County. An investigation is ongoing.

The city of Macomb has announced there will be no Committee of the Whole meeting today. City Clerk Melanie Falk says the reason for the cancellation was due to a lack of any pressing business at the committee. Nothing was considered “time sensitive.” The City Council will meet again next month.

Officials say a massive fire at the Chemtool plant near Rockton was started accidentally. The June 13th fire reportedly started when contractors were replacing insulation on an elevated heat transfer piping network. The system heats vessels used in the manufacture of lubricating greases.
