Tri-Counties News Brief: Illinois Legislature Approves New Budget

A Kewanee man struck a plea deal to avoid a homicide charge. Eldon Sturm pleaded guilty to delivering meth on Friday after he had been charged with drug-induced homicide in 2019 for the death of Lori Quanstrom who had died after ingesting meth the year before. Sturm was sentenced to 48 months’ probation and a 25 hundred dollar fine.

A man in his 70’s became the 69th person in Henry County to have died from COVID-19. The announcement came Tuesday morning. For a reference of the most current status of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 statewide visit the Illinois Department of Public Health’s website.

The Illinois Legislature approved a $42 billion state budget early Tuesday morning. House Majority Leader Greg Harris had pronounced a balanced budget that also reinstates the $350 million extra for public schools that was promised annually in a 2017 school-funding overhaul.
