Three People Killed in Accident on I-80 Thursday

Three people were killed in a horrific accident on interstate 80. According to information provided by the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 2:42 Pm on Interstate 80 westbound east of 300 East Street (milepost 40), Bureau County. A 26 year old male, a 22 year old female and a 1 year old female, each from South Bend, Indiana, were in a 2016 white Mustang traveling Westbound on I-80 in Bureau County near the border with Henry County. In front of the Mustang was a semi-tractor trailer vehicle also traveling westbound. The semi-tractor trailer was slowing for traffic in front of it when the Mustang struck the semi from behind. The three occupants of the white Mustang died at the scene. The driver of the semi, 69 year old Charles P Timmerman of Cuba City, Wisconsin was unharmed in the accident. At approximately 2:49 all westbound lanes of 80 in the area of the accident were closed for the traffic crash investigation and cleanup of debris. All westbound traffic was diverted off the Interstate to IL Rt. 40 south to US Rt. 6. At approximately 6:22 p.m., all lanes were reopened. There is no further information at this time.
