Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Opens in Kewanee Today

The long awaited and much delayed kids movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, opens in Kewanee today, Friday, February 14th at the Wanee Cinemas. The movie, based on the Sega videogame console game from the early 1990's had a troubled production and release which was delayed by nearly a year after fans online complained about the look of the Sonic character, specifically an objection to the characters teeth. That issue resolved, Sonic arrives in theaters on Valentine's Day weekend with surprisingly positive buzz from critics at RottenTomatoes.com where the film has received 69% positive reviews. The story of Sonic finds the super-powered Hedgehog hiding on Earth after being chased off of his home planet. When Sonic is discovered, he begins to be hunted by the villainous Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who wants Sonic's power for himself. Sonic is aided by a smalltown Sheriff played by James Marsden who aims to help Sonic recover his magic rings and avoid the evil Dr. Robotnik and his drones. The box office prospects for Sonic the Hedgehog look promising with the likely possibility that the movie will surpass Birds of Prey for the top spot at the weekend box office.
