New COVID-19 Cases Back Over 1000 Statewide in Illinois in One Day

It was nice while it lasted but now, Illinois appears to be seeing a slight upward spike of COVID-19. The Illinois Department Public Health reported on Thursday 1,018 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19. It’s first time since June 3rd of last month that the daily number of infections had gone back over 1000 in a single day. An additional 20 people died from COVID-19 over the 24 hour period between announcements by the IDPH. There is no definitive reasoning for why cases are going back, only assumptions based on the re-opening of parts of the economy that had been closed down.

Total numbers since the start of the Pandemic in Illinois, 150,450 confirmed cases. Of that number, 7,119 people in Illinois have died from COVID-19. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 2 –July 8 is 2.6%. As of last night, 1,507 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 317 patients were in the ICU and 153 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
