Moline Police Announce Arrest in Hit and Run that Killed One Man

The Moline Police have arrested a man for leaving the scene of an accident which left one man dead. According to Moline Police, 20 year Abraham Eneyew was walking in a lane of traffic eastbound in the area of 3600 John Deere Road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Yacoub Gadiaga on August 11th, 2020. Investigation of the incident indicates that Gadiaga did stop at the scene but did not see the victim. Gadiaga told police that he thought he’d struck a deer which had run off. A patrol officer later came upon the scene and found Eneyew lying in the street. Eneyew was taken to a local emergency room where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Witness interviews and examination of available physical evidence led to the identification of Gadiaga’s vehicle on August 19th and his arrest that day.Gadiaga is not facing any charges at this time related to the death of Abraham Eneyew. Instead, he faces charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. Gadiaga has a court date on September 14th. There is no indication that any other charges are going to be filed in the case. The Moline Police were assisted in the case by the Rock Island County Coroner and the Rock Island State’s Attorney.
