Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Suspends Aluminum Can Collection

Due to a break in their equipment, the Kewanee Chamber is asking the public not to drop off aluminum cans for the time being. Mark Mikenas with the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce tells RegionalDailyNews.com that until the Chamber is able to obtain a new can crushing machine, they cannot accept any aluminum cans for the time being. The average cost of a can crushing device, of the kind used by the Chamber, and located in the area of B & B Printing in Kewanee, is more than $55,000. It’s not something the Chamber can afford at this time. For years, aluminum can collection was used as one of the main fundraising efforts for the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Fireworks display. For now, those who have been dropping off cans for the Fireworks cause are asked to stop bringing cans until further notice.
