Galesburg to Announce New Violent Crime Task Force

The City of Galesburg will hold a press conference on Friday morning at 10 Am in Galesburg City Council Chambers. At that press conference the City of Galesburg will officially announce the formation of a new violent crime task force. According to the release from the City of Galesburg “The task force will consist of Galesburg Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the FBI Springfield Division.” The press release continues and refers to the rising amount of violent crime in Galesburg over the past several months “The City of Galesburg has experienced a significant increase in gun-related crime incidents in 2021. This type of criminal behavior poses a threat to the safety and quality of life for Galesburg residents, and will not be tolerated. The new task force will apply personnel and resources to identify, arrest, and prosecute individuals involved in drug trafficking, and gun-related offenses.”
