The City of Kewanee has announced that fire hydrant testing in the City of Kewanee will begin on Monday, November 30th. according to information from the City of Kewanee Public Works Department, Fire Hydrant testing will start morning. Testing will be done to update hydrant capacity and flow pressure data, in addition to flushing the water mains of sediment built up. Hydrants will be tested on Red Adams Road, at Western Avenue and Adams Street, and at the Adams Street railroad crossing. Residents within or nearby the testing areas may experience periods of lower than normal water pressure or discolored/rusty water and are asked to take precautions when using water until the water runs clean. Only flush the system by running cold water, running hot water may draw rust into the water heater. No boil orders will be issued as a result of this testing.
Also on Monday, November 30th, the City of Kewanee will be repairing a hydrant in the area of 3 ½ Street and Rice Street and residents in the 200 block of North Boss Street, 911 West 3rd Street, 230 and 239 Rice Street will have water shut off with a boil order to follow. Any residents, whose water has been shut off during this repair, will be under a boil order for 48 – 72 hours following the restoration of water service. Residents are asked to take precautions when using water until the water runs clean. Only flush the system by running cold water, running hot water may draw rust into the water heater.
Water being consumed for drinking or eating is all that is under the order. Using water for cleaning, laundry, showers, etc. does not need to be boiled.
