Black Hawk College to Honor the Late Chuck Deahl with Scholarship

Black Hawk College has announced the Deahl Scholarship in Honor of the late Chuck Deahl, a former member of the Black Hawk College East Foundation and long time supporter of the College. The scholarship was founded by Chuck's wife, Sharon Deahl, to mark his dedication to the college. In the press release Sharon states: “We know how important it is to have a community college in our area.” Sharon continues: “If there’s a way we can help students pursue an education, we wanted to do that.”

Sharon Deahl recently donated $25,000 to found the scholarship and additional funds in order to get the scholarship off the ground this year instead of waiting the typical two year period it takes for a typical endowment to mature. “Uncle Chuck was a Black Hawk College supporter through and through and very passionate about the mission of the East Campus,” said Jodee Werkheiser, his niece and an East Campus computer science applications professor. To apply for the Chuck Deahl Students can apply for 2020-21 BHC East Foundation scholarships from March 15 until May 15 at https://bhceastfoundation.org/. To commemorate Chuck’s dedication to BHC students, the community is welcome to donate to the scholarship fund in his memory. This endowed scholarship is to assist East Campus students who have graduated from a high school within the Black Hawk College district. Recipients must maintain a “C” or higher GPA with intent to pursue a four-year degree at either the University of Illinois or Bradley University. Demonstrated financial need is preferred. This scholarship covers tuition, fees, books and living expenses.
