Bees Take Center Stage at Kewanee City Council Thanks to Local Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts of Troop 4444 created a buzz at Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting. The Girl Scouts of Troop 4444, led by their Troop Leader Jacque Komnick, led the discussion from Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting regarding Bees and whether or not the City of Kewanee should eliminate an ordinance that outlaws Beekeeping in Kewanee City limits. 5 of the members of Troop 4444 took to the microphone on Monday night to extoll the virtues of bees including Kristina Armstrong…

Kristina was followed by Ms Huffman…

Then it was Savanna Walker's turn to speak…

Savanna was followed by Ashley Vanwassenhove…

And, last but not least, Lily Clark…

The presentation by the Girl Scouts of Troop 4444 was met with a resounding round of applause and while the City Council still has to answer questions regarding zoning and safety related to Bee Habitats and pollinator gardens, there appeared to be widespread support for Beekeeping in Kewanee. The next step will be more information about Bees from a Bee expert and input from residents. If you have anything you would like to say to the Kewanee City Council regarding Bees and Beekeeping you can reach out to Kewanee City Hall at 309-852-2611 and say you have something to say about Bees and Beekeeping.
