The Illinois Commerce Commission will review a plan submitted by Ameren that will determine natural gas delivery rates. It’s an 11-month process, and consumer watchdog Citizen’s Utility Board has issued a statement saying it will be keeping close watch on the proceedings. The utility is asking for a $102-million natural gas rate hike. Jim Chilsen of the Citizens Utility Board says the company is asking for a 10.5 percent Return on Equity, or profit rate for shareholders. Its current ROE is 9.87 percent.
Any rate hike would take place in early 2021. Ameren Illinois issued a statement saying: “Ameren Illinois is modernizing its natural gas delivery system and improving reliability for downstate customers. The proposed adjustment will enable Ameren Illinois to expand capacity for Illinois’ future economic growth, strengthen pipeline safety, and support hundreds of jobs in central and southern Illinois."
