IVCC Sets Virtual Commencement for May 16

An estimated 110 students are expected to participate in Illinois Valley Community College’s 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16 virtual commencement.  The 54th annual commencement, the first to be held entirely online, will feature photos of graduates and a keynote address by former IVCC trustee Melissa Olivero.

Olivero of Peru, an administrative law judge for the National Labor Relations Board, served IVCC from 2009 to 2019.  As board chair, she oversaw the opening of the Peter Miller Community Technology Center in 2014 and other major campus renovations.

Also at commencement, IVCC President Jerry Corcoran will welcome graduates and guests, former student trustee Matthew Klein will deliver the invocation and board chair Jane Goetz will introduce trustees.

Nasrina Bellel will read her winning Paul Simon Essay and Vice President for Academic Affairs Deborah Anderson will present the Class of 2020. Corcoran will confer degrees and certificates and new student trustee Manuel (Tony) Galindo will deliver the benediction.

All 2020 graduates will be invited to participate in-person in IVCC’s May 2021 commencement.
