Illinois Unemployment Down From Last Week

According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Labor, 141,000 people filed for unemployment benefits last week in Illinois.  That is nearly 60,000 fewer than the week before.  Economists say that even though the number of claims declined, the figures were not encouraging because most of the people who filed the week prior are likely still jobless.  Nationwide, workers filed 5.2 million initial unemployment insurance claims in the week ending April 11.
