Governor Pritzker To Deliver His Budget Address

Governor J.B. Pritzker delivers his budget address Wednesday and he says he’s going into it with tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer savings with hundreds of millions more down the road.

The current fiscal year ends June 30.  In the previous fiscal year, the state government spent a billion more than it brought in, despite policymakers claiming that the budget was balanced.  Pritzker says thanks to employment contracts with healthcare savings for state employees, among other efficiencies, taxpayers will save big in the upcoming budget.

Pritzker has released a list of what he calls efficiencies, noting the elimination of redundant or obsolete boards and commissions, and even potential state agency consolidations.  He says he ordered the Illinois departments of Labor and Employment Security to investigate a merger.
