Cities Looking For Civil Fines On Top Of Possible Criminal Charges For Violating Stay Home Order

Some cities across Illinois already have measures to allow for civil penalties for residents who violating police orders.  Others are looking for more.

Normal Mayor Chris Koos said law enforcement will be out enforcing the limits of ten or more people.

Springfield’s mayor issued an executive order Wednesday giving police the ability to fine someone $500 for violating the order, including the six foot social distancing policy.  Alderman Ralph Hanauer Tuesday night questioned how much longer the stay home order will go, and said enforcement may get more difficult as time progresses.

There have been enforcement actions in Quincy, Rockford, Alton and elsewhere.
