PrEP at The Whiteside County Community Health Clinic

PrEP (pre exposure prophylaxis) is medication taken once daily to prevent HIV. PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99% and by at least 74% for injection drug users when taken as prescribed. There are 2 different medication approved for use for PrEP. Truvada Is approved for all individuals at risk for HIV through sex and injection drug use and Descovy Is approved for individuals at risk for HIV through sex except for those assigned female at birth.

You will also have initial labs drawn these labs will check for a variety of things including gonorrhea, chlamydia as well as for HIV. After your initial visit you will have a 1 months follow up and then every 3 months after that.
