Minimum Wage in Illinois will Increases on January 1st, 2022

Dianna Schuler, Business Services Manager for Business Employment Skills Team, Inc. (BEST) wants to remind all Illinois businesses that the minimum wage increases to $12.00 per hour beginning on January 1st, 2022.

Interestingly, laws about a maximum wage began back during 1349 when the Black Plague resulted in a labor shortage. King Edward the Third, set up something called Ordinance of Labourers that set a maximum wage to help with the labor shortage due to deaths from Black Plague.

The United States’ Federal Minimum Wage, created in 1938, was to set a minimum standard of living for employees. In Illinois the minimum wage will gradually increase to $15.00 per hour slated for January 1st, 2025.
