Western Illinois News Brief: Governor Pritzker Still Urging People to Get Vaccinated

Two police chases in Keokuk, Iowa, have ended in crashes in the last few days. The first happened Thursday when a driver ran a red light and ended up driving through a yard and off an old wall. 48-year-old Matthew White was charged for parole and probation violation. The second accident was reported Saturday with a car crashing into the front yard of a home on South 18th. The driver had to be transported by Air Evac.

Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker is urging residents to get the vaccine amid a scare from the Delta variant of COVID-19. During an appearance in Lawndale Monday, he said the Delta variant will be the dominant strain in Illinois by this fall, reminding Illinoisans that the pandemic is not over.

The state of Iowa has approved providing 100 million dollars toward capital investment projects across the state. Provisional funding would go toward sports and entertainment venues as well as hotels. According to a press release the projects are expected to generate 383 and a half million dollars over 20 years.
