Congresswoman Cheri Bustos is giving her thoughts after welcoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to Sauk Valley Community College where they toured a multicraft lab, visited a nursing lab and spoke with local students and educators:
“To remain competitive on the global level, we must start thinking of education as K-14. That’s why I’m thrilled we have an educator in the White House – First Lady Dr. Jill Biden – who has taught in the classroom herself and understands the importance of investing in our students. I was proud to welcome the First Lady and Secretary of Education today to display the innovative work of students and educators in our corner of Illinois”
Dr. Biden used the visit to the community college in Dixon on Monday to promote efforts to make higher education more affordable.
The first lady toured the school of 1,600 students, and touted a new program at the college that allows high school students to earn tuition by performing 25 hours of community service each year.
Bustos, Biden and Cardona were joined in Dixon by Governor J.B. Pritzker.
