Genesis unveiled plans for an eight-date late-fall U.K. reunion tour this past Wednesday, but the trek has now been expanded to include twice the number of shows.
The outing, called The Last Domino? Tour 2020, now is set to kick off on November 16 in Dublin, Ireland, while a November 19 concert in Belfast, U.K., also has been added, along with new shows in six U.K. cities hosting previously announced reunion gigs — Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.
The trek will feature Genesis’ classic trio lineup of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, joined by Collins’ teenage son Nic on drums and the group’s longtime touring guitarist Daryl Stuermer.
In an exclusive interview with Prog magazine about the decision to reunite for a tour, Phil said, “There were more reasons to do it than not to do it. If we had to do it the way we used to tour, I don’t think I’d be doing it. But nowadays it can be done differently, and I’ve been doing that for the last couple of years.”
In 2017, Collins returned to touring as a solo artist after a six-year hiatus that was prompted by health issues that also forced him to quit drumming. For his solo outings, Phil enlisted son Nic to take over drumming duties, and now the younger Collins will take on the same role for Genesis.
“Nic is a great drummer, but he is capable of sounding like early Phil,” he told Prog. “For Mike and I, that was always quite exciting. It means you can play some of the songs that you haven’t played with Phil as the drummer for a long time.”
