The Offspring feels ‘Tiger King’ fever with “Here Kitty Kitty” cover

Much like the rest of America, The Offspring is feeling Tiger King fever. And the only prescription, apparently, is a cover of “Here Kitty Kitty.”

For those who are somehow unaware, Tiger King is a Netflix docu-series about Joe Exotic, a big cat collector who’s now serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted of animal abuse and murder-for-hire against his chief rival, animal rights activist Carole Baskin.

In between all that, Exotic also had a singing career, and he recorded a song called “Here Kitty Kitty” about the allegations that Baskin killed her husband in the ’90s and fed him to her tigers, which she denies.

The Offspring has now put a spin on that tune, which you can listen to streaming on YouTube.

By the way, Exotic didn’t technically record “Here Kitty Kitty” — that would be a group called The Clinton Johnson Band. Exotic, meanwhile, simply lip-synced over the tune.

“Like many of you, we are going a little stir crazy these days and we wanted to do something fun to put a smile on our faces, and hopefully on some of yours too,” The Offspring writes of the cover. “This song, ‘Here Kitty Kitty,’ was originally by The Clinton Johnson Band, and *not* by anyone in that recent documentary we all got caught up in.

“The Offspring wives were group texting recently, and while they all agreed that they truly love their husbands, there are times when they’ve absolutely felt like feeding us to the tigers,” the band adds. “In that spirit, we hope you enjoy this random song and video.”
