Sub Urban earns first number-one ‘Billboard’ single with “Cradles”

Sub Urban has earned his first number-one Billboard single, thanks to his breakout hit, “Cradles.”

The viral sensation, which has over 108 million views on YouTube and has been used over one billion times on TikTok, is now the number-one song on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart.

Of the six songs to lead the Alternative Songs chart in 2020, five, including “Cradles,” are by artists who’ve never topped the ranking before. The other four are “Novocaine” by The Unlikely Candidates, “Dissolve” by Absofacto, “Might Be Right” by White Reaper, and Meg Myers‘ “Running Up That Hill” cover.

Billie Eilish also conquered Alternative Songs this year with “everything i wanted,” though she’d already led the tally twice in 2019 with “bad guy” and “bury a friend.”

Sub Urban released his debut EP, Thrill Seeker, earlier this month. It includes his “Cradles” follow-up single, “Freak.”
