My Chemical Randal: Kevin Smith says “Welcome to the Black Parade” inspired ‘Clerks 3’

My Chemical Romance‘s epic single “Welcome to the Black Parade” has undoubtedly influenced countless bands and songs, but it’s also apparently made its way to the film world.

During an episode of his Fatman Beyond podcast, director and fellow New Jersey hero Kevin Smith was asked what song he’d want to build a movie around. His answer? “Welcome to the Black Parade.”

Not only that, but Smith also revealed that he’s already made that movie, and it’s the upcoming third installment of his Clerks series.

“Such an epic song,” Smith said of “Black Parade.” “I’m building Clerks 3 around that song so this is actually a great question for me right now…I’m using that as my model.”

By the way, MCR frontman Gerard Way is reportedly scoring Clerks 3.

MCR, meanwhile, plans to launch a full-scale U.S. reunion tour in September. The band had to postpone their spring dates in Japan, Australia and New Zealand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
