Chester Bennington‘s pre-Linkin Park band Grey Daze is releasing a new album called Amends, a collection of re-recorded songs featuring the late musician’s original vocal takes. As Grey Daze drummer Sean Dowdell tells ABC Audio, the group has already started working on even more music.
“Everything depends on how [Amends] is received, but so far we’re off to a really good start,” Dowdell explains. “I think we are gonna have a second record.”
“And possibly a third,” he adds. “We’ll see what happens.”
However, Dowdell assures that any future Grey Daze material would be recorded in the same way Amends was: with Bennington’s original vocals.
“We will do everything with Chester’s voice on it,” Dowdell promises. “We have no intention of trying to replace him as a singer, that’s not what this project was about.”
What Amends is about, Dowdell says, is to “do right” by his longtime friend and former band mate, and to “finish what we started together.”
“I think it would be a bit disingenuous if I chose to do all this work with Chester and go through all this music for this specific reason,” Dowdell says. “And then as soon as we get to the finish line of letting people hear it, go, ‘Oh, this is the new singer."”
“I don’t think that that feels right,” he continues. “And I don’t think that’s something I really wanna do.”
Amends will be released April 10.
