Songs by Fountains of Wayne have seen a large uptick in streams and downloads following the death of bassist and songwriter Adam Schlesinger.
Billboard reports that streams of the band’s catalog increased by 400 percent between April 1-4, while downloads went up 1,560 percent. Nearly half of those streams came courtesy of the 2003 single “Stacy’s Mom,” which saw a 184 percent boost.
FoW’s 1996 single “Radiation Vibe,” meanwhile, jumped a total of 1,874 percent in streams.
Additionally, the song “That Thing You Do,” which Schlesinger wrote for the 1996 Tom Hanks-directed film of the same name, went up 902% in streams.
Schlesinger died on April 1 at age 52 from COVID-19 coronavirus complications.
