Fountains of Wayne releases new “Hackensack” recording featuring Sharon Van Etten

Fountains of Wayne has released a new version of the band’s song “Hackensack,” featuring indie singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten on bass and backing vocals in place of the late Adam Schlesinger.

The performance was recorded during April’s Jersey 4 Jersey benefit concert, which raised money for the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund. Prior to that show, the Fountains hadn’t played together in seven years.

Proceeds from the new “Hackensack” recording will also be donated to the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund.  You can download it now via the Fountains of Wayne Bandcamp. Video of the collaboration is streaming now on YouTube.

The original “Hackensack” appeared on Fountains of Wayne’s 2003 album, Welcome Interstate Managers, which also spawned the band’s hit “Stacy’s Mom.”

Schlesinger died on April 1 of COVID-19 complications. He was 52.
