The 2019 Prairie Chicken Chalk Art Festival is here!
Celebrate Art & Creativity in Kewanee, IL!
The canvas is the Go-Kart track, located west of the Amtrak Station in downtown Kewanee, IL.
Join the fun! Show off your chalk art skills!
Categories: Youth squares: 45” x 45” (Three categories: Ages 5-10, 11-13, and 14-17)
Adult amateur squares: 96” x 96”
Adult professional squares will vary in size, some measuring 120” x 120”.
Teams of two or more people may chalk in the same space; individual registration fee applies. While participants of all ages may work in the adult squares, youth squares are limited to youth age 17 and under (parents or guardians may assist as needed).
Registration: Pre-registration is recommended as spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first serve basis. Participants may register at the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce in person or through mail, or available online at Eventbrite.com. Participants may register the day of the event as space allows.
Fee: ADULT/PROFESSIONAL: $50 – includes professional chalk, one $10 restaurant gift card, tote bag.
ADULT/AMATEUR: $35 – includes professional chalk, and tote bag.
YOUTH: $10 – includes chalk, and tote bag.
*Want to be near someone? Please submit registrations together noting request.
Materials: Adult Amateur and Professional participants will be supplied with a box of high-quality artist chalk, hand wipes, and water at check-in. Bring your own spray water bottles and additional color chalk specific to chalk art design.
Awards: Awards and winners will be announced and given at 4pm Saturday in front of the registration booth. Award categories:

Additional Rules & Guidelines:
Drawings must be appropriate for public viewing.
You may use any or all of the assigned space.
No commercial stencils allowed. You may bring tools such as masking tape, rulers, or cardboard to mask off areas while working. Some find it helpful to use a “wet technique” by dipping chalk in water, bring a sponge!
Feel free to bring any prepared sketches to work from.
If you are creating an image originally created by another artist (living or deceased), it is important to credit the artist and the title near the drawing.
Do bring sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. You may bring a portable umbrella with stand for extra shade. You may find kneepads or a piece of cardboard helpful to kneel on.
All participants may start Friday, July 12th at 8 a.m., must be finished by 3pm, Saturday July 13th.
Photographs may be taken by Prairie Chicken Festival volunteers and used for future publicity.
Check-in: Check-in begins at 8am on Friday, July 12th, at the registration tent on the Festival Grounds.
Amateur Art Show is seeking entries!
In the spirit of the Prairie Chicken Festival’s dedication to the arts we are holding an amateur art show on the weekend of the festival at P L Damron’s Cafe at 206 N. Tremont, Kewanee, IL. Artists desiring to submit are encouraged to complete a registration form and review the terms and conditions prior to submission.
Limit 4 entries per artist.
The categories are:
Photography, Black and White Photography, People and/or Animals Photography, Landscape and/or flowers Painting, Graphic Art, 3 Dimensional Art
(see terms and conditions for examples of categories)
1st place in each category will receive a first place ribbon and a $50.00 Visa Gift Card
2nd place in each category will receive a ribbon and a $20.00 Chamber Gift Certificate
There is no fee to enter.
