USDA sees higher planted area for corn, soybeans

The USDA is projecting increased planted acreage for a number of crops, including corn and soybeans, but that will depend on weather.

2020 corn acreage is estimated at 96.990 million acres, up 8% from 2019, which saw historic planting delays in many key U.S. growing areas because of extremely wet weather.

Soybeans are seen at 83.510 million acres, 10% higher than a year ago, which was also impacted by weather.

Planted area for all types of wheat is expected to be 44.665 million acres, 1% less than last year and, if realized, the lowest since 1919, when the USDA started keeping records on U.S.
